Light causes photosynthesis which leads to reduction in concentration of . Then, glycolate is synthesized. Following the synthesis, oxidation of glycolate occurs. ATP synthesis takes place after the oxidation process. Then, the pump is activated, ions move in the guard cells. Due to this, the water molecules move into guard cells. The guard cells swell which results in opening of stomata. Hence, Glycolate induces opening of stomata.
