The reason why temperatures around seas or oceans don't typically reach the same extremes as on land is because of a few key factors. The first factor is the specific heat of water. Water has a higher specific heat than land, which means it takes longer to heat up and cool down. This means that water will not heat up or cool down as quickly as land will, especially in response to sudden changes in temperature. Another factor is convection currents. Water has excellent convection currents which help to spread the heat gained at the top surface down to the bottom layers. This helps to maintain a more stable temperature throughout the water. Land, on the other hand, may not have such efficient convection currents. Lastly, water is liquid, so as the temperature rises, evaporation cools it down. However, when the temperature is lower, the amount of evaporation decreases, which also contributes to the stabilization of water temperatures.
