Soni says that the acceleration in an object could be zero even when several forces are acting on it. Do you agree with her? Why?

Text SolutionText solutionverified iconVerified

Yes, I agree with Soni that the acceleration in an object could be zero even when several forces are acting on it.
Let  equal and opposite forces   act on an object, they cancel out each other so that the net external force experienced by the object is zero which makes the object to move with zero acceleration.

Thus  an object will kept on moving with a constant velocity  if it was also moving initially.

As the mass of the gun is much higher than the mass of the bullet, the velocity of gun is much smaller than the velocity of the bullet. The magnitude of the momentumed the bullet and that of the gun are equal and their directions are opposite. Thus, the toes momentum is constant. Total momentum is also constant during the launch of a rocke: Solved examples Example 1: The mass of a cannon is and it recoils with a speed of . Wह is the momentum of the cannon? Given : mass of the cannon , recoil speed Momentum ? Momentum Example 2: 2 balls have masses of and respectively and they are moving along the same line in the same direction with velocities of and respectivel! They collide with each other and after the collision, the first ball moves with a velocity d . Calculate the velocity of the other ball after collision. Given : The mass of first ball , mass of the second ball Initial velocity of the first ball , Initial velocity of the second ball Final velocity of the first ball , Final velocity of the second ball ? According to the law of conservation of momentum, total initial momentum Total find momentum. Fxercises (3ex?

MATTIER IN OUR SURROUNDTNGS 'nything which occupies space and has mass is called matter. Air and water; hydrogen and oxygen ; sugar and sand ; silver and steel ; copper and coul ; iron and woud ; ice and alcobol : milk and oil ; kerosene and petrol ; carbon diovide and steum : carbon and sulphur : rocks and munerals ane all different kinds of matter, because all of them eccupy space (that is, they have volume), and maxi If we look around us, we can see a lange number of things of ditferent shapes, sires and terturec. Many of these things are used by us in our everyday life. For evample, we eat food, drinh water, breathe in ait and wear clothes. We use table and chair for studying and bedi for sleeping, We also see other human beings, various animals, plants, and trees around thy, The things lithe foodi, water, air, clothes, table chair, human beings, animals, plants and trees, etcy, are all evamples of matter. The only conditions for 'something' to be 'matter' are that it should 'wrepy spuw' and ''are mas'. Now the things like friendship, love affection hatred, good manners, thoughts, ideas, taste and amoll etcu do not occupy space and do not have mass. So, from the point of view of chemistry, things like triendshipg love, affection, hatred, good manners, thoughts, idens, taste and smell are not considered 'mather' (though all these things matter a lot in our everyday life 1). Matter can be classified in a number of ways. Ancient Indian philocophers sikd that all the mateer ( oudarth), living or non-living, was made up of five basic elements (garsh tatea) : air, earth tire shy and water (rayn, prithro, agni, aisht and fan). Modem day scientists classify matter in two ways : on the basis of it physical properties and on the basis of its chemical properties. On the basis of physical properties matter is classified as solids, liquids and gases. And on the basis of chemical properties, matter is classitied as elements, compounds and mixtures. In this chapter, we will study the classification of matter on the. busis of its physical properties. The classification of matter on the basis of its chemical properties will bee described in the next chapter.
