CELL THEORY In 1838, a German botanist M.J. Schleiden, and in 1839 a German zoologist Theodor Schwann, after studying similarity of the plant cells and observations made during the study of animal cells. Schwann published his book in 1839 and summarized his observations into three major points which form the bases of the cell theory. 1.
