If the rise in the level of mercury in the arm of the manometer which is not connected to the gas container is 2cm , the depression in the level of mercury in the other arm that is connected to the gas container is also 2cm.Thus, the difference in the levels of mercury in both the arms =2+2=4cm
Thus, the pressure of the gas = the atmospheric pressure + pressure due to 4cm of Hg
=80cm of Hg
