Force is attractive. When direction of force is known, we will use Coulomb's law to find magnitude of force only. We should write both

with positive sign only in equation (2).

F = k \frac{∣ q _{1} q _{2} ∣}{r ^{2}} = 9 \times 1 0^{9} \frac{Nm ^{2}}{C ^{2}} \cdot \frac{( 1 C ) ( 1 C )}{( 1 m ) ^{2}} = 9 \times 1 0^{9} N
