Two similar parallel-plate capacitors each of capacity are connected in series. The combination is connected with a voltage source of . Now, separation between the plates of one capacitor is increased by a distance and the separation between the plates of another capacitor is decreased by the distance . The distance between the plates of each capacitor was before the change in separation. Then, select the correct choice.

HOW TO PROCEED In steady state a capacitor offers an infinite resistance. Therefore, the two circuits and CDEFC have no relation with each other. Hence, the battery of emf is not going to contribute any current in the lower circuit. Similarly, the battery of emf will not contribute to the current in the upper circuit. So, first we will calculate the current in the two circuits, then find the potential difference and and finally we can connect two batteries of emf and across the capacitors to find the charges stored in them.
