The talus articulates with the medial maleolus of the tibia on one side and on the other side it forms a joint with the lateral maleolus of the fibula.. This the most important part of the talo-crural or ankle joint However, the talus also forms joints with the calcaneus ( heel bone) and the boat-shaped navicular bone. During the process of walking, the talus transmits 50% of the body's weight to the calcaneus and, distributes the rest of the weight among the other tarsal bones.
