The muscles of the forearm that are attached to the wrist bones or that pass int the had are held close to the carla bones by a strong fascia . At the wrist the fascia become thick bands of connective tissue called retinacula. The flexor retinaculum covers the palmar surfaces of the wrist bones, while the extensor retinaculum is disposed on the dorsal surface. . The extensor tendons of the wrist and digits pass under the extensor retinaculum. The flexor tendons of the carpus and digits , as well as the median nerve run deep to the flexor retinaculum.
