In synarthroses joints there is no movement between the bones in the adult animal. This is the case in sutures between some cranial bones in adults There is a limited amount of movement in the distal anterior tibio-fibular joint, as there is between teeth and their sockets in the mandible and maxilla. In the latter case, the syndesmoses of teeth and jawbones, the periodontal ligament facilitates the movements that qualify the latter joints as amphiarthroses .
