Direction Read the following and answer the questions from given below Transfer RNA (tRNA) serves as the nucleic acid decoding device that reads the triplet genetic code of messenger RNA ( RNA) and causes the insertion of codon-specific amino acids in a growing protein chain during the process of translation in the ribosome. A particular triplet codon in a RNA is read by a RNA through one of its loop, which has triplet of anticodon residues that base pair with the codon. Each RNA is charged with a particular amino acid at its end. (i) The presence of an adaptor molecule that would on one hand read the code and on the other hand would bind to specific amino acids was postulaled by (a) Francis Crick (b) James Watson (c) Rosalind Franklin (d) Griffith (ii) The difference between and is that (a) mRNA has more elaborated 3-dimentional structure due to extensive base pairing (b) mRNA bears anticodon, but tRNA has codons (c) tRNA has more elaborated 3-dimentional structure due to extensive base pairing (d) mRNA is usually smaller than tRNA (iii) Before the genetic code was postulated, the RNA was called (a) rRNA (ribosomal RNA) (b) mRNA (messenger RNA) (c) sRNA (soluble RNA) (d) sedimentary RNA (iv) RNA binds to RNA through (a) anticodon loop (c) amino acid binding loop (d) D-loop

(i) (a) Sir Francis Crick discovered the adaptor molecule or RNA. But its 3-dimentional structure or compact form was given by Klug in 1974 . (ii) (c) The difference between RNA and RNA is that RNA has more elaborated 3-dimentional structure than RNA due to extensive base pairing. RNA is also smaller than RNA. iii) (c) RNA was known as sRNA (soluble RNA) before the genetic code was postulated. Its role as an adaptor molecule was reported later. (iv) (a) RNA binds to RNA through anticodon loop, as it bears bases complementary to those on RNA being translated. (v) (d) Statements I and II are related to RNA. Statement III is incorrect and can be corrected as RNA are specific for each amino acid, e.g. for initiation there is a specific initiator RNA.
