11. A rod of mass ' ' and length hinged at end can rotate smoothly in vertical plane about horizontal axis passing through . It is released from a horizontal position as shown in the figure and strikes a block of mass M kept vertically below at distance on a smooth horizontal surface. The block after collision moves on the smooth vertical circular track of diameter such that the force exerted by the circular track on the block at point is on third of its weight. If the rod after collision rotates through an angle from the horizontal, fin the ratio of masses . 12. A plank of mass is placed over smooth triangular wedge with angle of inclination . Block of mass is connected to the plank by massless string. A cylinder of mass and radius is

20 | Navbodh Rariksha Saar Q. 3. Write a relation between 'Parsec' and light year used for measuring asth nomical distances. Ans. 1 Parsec light years. Q. 4. A car is moving with velocity . What is the distance covered by it, one second ? Ans. . Q. 5. Write the number of significant figures in the followings : (i) , (ii) 0.007 Ans. (i) 3 , (ii) 1 . Q.6. Define the dimensions of a physical quantity. Ans. The suitable powers, by which a derived unit is expressed in terms of fundamentea units are called dimensions of that physical quantity. \[ \begin{aligned} \text { Example: Velocity } & =\frac{\text { Distance }}{\text { Time }} \\ & =\frac{[\mathrm{L}]}{[\mathrm{T}]}=\left[\mathrm{LT}^{-1}\right]=\left[\mathrm{M}^{0} \mathrm{LT}^{-1}\right] \end{aligned} \] Thus, dimension of velocity are, in length 1 and time -1 . Q. 7. What is dimensional equation? Explain with examples. Ans. The equation which represents the relation of a derived unit with the fundamental units is called dimensional equation. In mechanics dimensional equation is represented as \[ \begin{array}{rlrl} & {[X]} & =\left[\mathrm{M}^{a} \mathrm{~L}^{b} \mathrm{~T}^{c}\right] \\ \text { Examples: Velocity } & =\left[\mathrm{M}^{0} L T^{-1}\right] \\ \text { and } & \text { Force } & =\left[\mathrm{MLT}^{-2}\right] . \end{array} \] Q. 8. Name two physical quantities which have same dimensions. Ans. Work and moment of force (dimensional formula : ) Q. 9. Name the Physical quantities represented by the dimensional formula Ans. Modulus of elasticity, Stress, Pressure. Q. 10. What are significant figures? Ans. Significant figures: The number of digits used to express accurately the measured value of the physical quantity is called the significant figures. Q. 11. What is "Angstrom'? Ans. It is very small unit of distance . Q. 12. Name the Physical quantity which has unit but no dimensions. Ans. Angle, the unit of angle is radian but it has no dimension. Short Answer Type Questions (2/3 Marks) Q. 1. What is unit? State two properties of unit. Ans. The reference standard value for the measurement of a given physical quantity is called the unit of that physical quantity.
