The maximum number of ATP produced should be determined when electrons flow from NADH to O 2 . Concept introduction: ► During electron transport chain, each NADH molecule is oxidized by O 2 via transfer of electrons. Protons are pumped across the inner mitochondrial membrane and this facilitates ATP production. This process is oxidative phosphorylation. ► 6NADH molecules participate in electron transport chain reactions. ► Each NADH molecule produces maximum 3 ATP molecules by oxidative phosphorylation.
