Question asked by Filo student

Diabetes insipidus and poorly controlled diabetes mellitus are associated with frequent/excessive urination. In poorly controlled DM, frequent/excessive urination occurs when blood glucose levels exceed approximately 200 mg/dL, a concentration known as the glucose threshold where significant quantities of glucose are not reabsorbed back into the blood but rather pass into (and sweeten) the urine. With knowledge of lipid membrane biochemistry, explain the different causal mechanisms of frequent/excessive urination in DI and DM.

Texts: George and Barbara's best friends, Jim and Sharon, were at their house to play cards last weekend. After talking about their great experiences going to the local gym and beginning an exercise program, Jim and Sharon decide that they also want to begin a program. The four friends come to your gym the next week and you go through the screening process with Jim and Sharon. From their physician, you learn that Jim has kidney disease and undergoes dialysis. What are some special considerations you need to factor into Jim's exercise? Sharon smoked cigarettes from the age of 25 until she was diagnosed with COPD at the age of 78 last year. Knowing that Sharon has COPD, what aerobic exercise program would you prescribe for her? George and Barbara's son is in town and he would like to bring his daughter, Claire, George and Barbara's granddaughter, to the gym to work out with you. Claire is 16 years old and has cerebral palsy. She is cleared by a physician and works with a clinical exercise physiologist and a therapist at home to exercise. Her medical team would like her to exercise with you while she is visiting her grandparents. What are some special considerations that Claire's medical team would inform you of prior to beginning her exercise routine? Claire's brother, Cayden (George and Barbara's grandson), is 8 years old and has been diagnosed with ADHD. While visiting the grandparents, Cayden tags along to the gym with his father and Claire. Based on what you know about ADHD and exercise, which recommendation would be most advantageous for Cayden?
  1. Cayden should only exercise one-on-one with the trainer to avoid distractions. Low-intensity exercise is necessary for safety.
  2. Cayden should exercise with the group of his family and his family's friends, and short duration, high-intensity training will be best.
  3. Cayden should exercise with the group of his family and his family's friends, and low-intensity exercise is necessary for safety.
  4. Cayden should only exercise one-on-one with the trainer to avoid distractions. Short duration, high-intensity training will be best.
