In position-1, maximum current is

At the given time when switch is shifted to position-2 current is or half of the above value. Thus at this instant capacitor is also charged to half of the final value of
Now it is shifted to position-2 where in steady state it is again charge to 5V. but with opposite polarity. So in final steady state the energy stored in capacitor is same as it had at initial instant. Thus total work done by the lower battery is converted into heat. As battery polarity is reversed total charge supplied by the battery is so total heat produced is given as
