A reverberatory furnace is a metallurgical process furnace that isolates the material being processed from contact with the fuel, but not from contact with combustion gases.

A reverberatory furnace in copper, tin and nickel production, a furnace used for smelting and refining in which fuel is not in directly contact with ore but heats it by a flame blown over it from another chamber. In steel making this process called open-hearth process. In this process heat passes over hearth in which ore is placed and reverberates back.
