Autoreduction

It is the process in which sulphide ores of less electropositive metals like $Hg,Pb,Co$ etc. are heated in air so that a part of the ore is converted into oxide ore which in turns react with remaining suplhide ore in absence of air to give the metal and sulphur dioxide.
