Texts: CASE STUDY Ms Mokoena is a Grade R Art and Handcraft teacher in the rural village of Moruleng in the North West Province. She is admired for her innovative ways of handling and arranging her art materials. She recently had the opportunity to address her Grade R teachers on the significance of art for children's development and why it is important. Amongst other things, she spoke about the significance of waste materials for art development. She encouraged parents to consider donating useful and safe waste materials to the class for this purpose. Since then, parents have been excited about this project and regularly donate materials. Teacher Rapodile sorted and categorized the materials, some for cultural purposes and others for daily use. Seeing that the parents were responsive to the request, she converted the room previously used as a storeroom into an art center. Other Grade R teachers are also able to use the center for their classes. On the walls of the art center, Ms Mokoena has demarcated the space according to the children's age groups. For instance, wall A is designated for hanging 3-4-year-olds' artwork, wall B for 4-5-year-olds' artwork, and wall C for 5-6-year-olds' artwork. These pictures are hung after each activity. Teacher Mokoena realized that although newly employed teachers find the art center useful, it is often left in a messy and disorganized state, with board pins sometimes on the floor. She has also learned that some parents donated sharp scissors, and teachers used them with learners in a previous class. Now answer the questions below: QUESTION 1: (20) 1.1 Describe what you think about the way the teacher, Ms Mokoena, arranged the art center and explain why you think she did this. (5) 1.2 State FIVE (5) safety rules you consider a priority in an art center, which you think teacher Rapodile should encourage other teachers to observe. (5) 4 GRT1501/ASSESSMENT 3/0/2023 1.3 Critically discuss how teacher Mokoena would teach an art lesson if she taught at an inner-city school. (s) 1.4 Explain which resources you suggest she uses in the classroom. (s) QUESTION 2: (30) 2.1 Critically discuss what you would define as safe waste. Provide practical classroom examples to support your answer. (5) 2.2 Justify the FIVE (5) safe waste products you would encourage parents to contribute to your art class. Create a mind map to classify them according to their nature and use. (10) 2.3 Sort waste material from your kitchen and create a collage to demonstrate to parents what can be done with waste material from their kitchens to support their children's learning. Take a picture of the resources you are going to use and the end product. (15)
