Plants absorb a lot of minerals that are not essential for them in addition to essential minerals. A total of 17 minerals are essential to most of the plants. These minerals can be grouped into two categories macronutrients, which are required in larger quantity and micronutrients, which are required in lesser quantity.
Macronutrients are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorous, nitrogen, potassium, sulphur, calcium, magnesium.
Micronutrients are iron, molybdenum, boron, chlorine, zinc, copper, manganese and nickel.
