Gap junctions facilitate intercellular communication by allowing small signaling molecules to pass from cell to cell. These are fine hydrophilic channels between two adjacent animal cells that are formed with the help of two protein cylinders called connexus.
Each connexus consists of six proteins subunits that surround a hydrophilic channel. and ion concentration controls, opening or closing of channels.

Name: BIOL1ZO Homework - Draw Phylogeny Draw a phylogenetic tree for the six taxa listed below using the information provided. Any trait that is bolded in the description must be included on the phylogenetic tree. The tree should also be as parsimonious as possible. I have specifically chosen fictional organisms because I do not want you to simply look up a phylogenetic tree online and then just copy it for your answer. Remember that a similar exercise may be on the lecture exam, so if you have any questions, please come and talk to one of your instructors. Orang_bati_ Bigfoot Aswang Nessi_ Almas Ogopogo_ READ THROUGH ALL THE INFORMATION CAREFULLY PRIOR TO DRAWING. All six groups share a common ancestor that first arose 700 myA. All groups except the Nessi and the Ogopogo have four limbs, which is a synapomorphic trait. The Bigfoot and Almas are sister taxa. In addition, they share a recent common ancestor with the Orang-bati, and all three are covered in fur. The Ogopogo and Nessi share the homologous trait of thick scales. Both the Aswang and the Orang-bati are blood-suckers. Once you have drawn the phylogeny with all of the taxa and the bolded traits, add the following: - An arrow indicating time - Draw a circle around three of the taxa that together represent a monophyletic group or clade - Add your own synapomorphic trait (i.e., make one up) for this monophyletic group and draw it on the phylogeny - Draw square boxes around what is likely the only analogous trait represented on the phylogeny
