Carnivorous (insectivorous) plants are mainly found in nitrogen deficient soil. To make up the nitrogen deficiency, they have developed insect trapping mechanism in which leaves have taken the shape of a pitcher containing insect digesting proteolytic enzymes. They trap insect and absorb the nitrogen derived from them.

(CURE) Why is this important? Question 2. Summarize the workflow (week-to-week progression) of our research project from the first week up to and including the first ESKAPE screening. Briefly state the steps performed during each research meeting and the importance or purpose of each step (about 2-3 sentences per lab). Question 3. Discuss what differences in soil microbe populations could be expected at the labeled points on the projected figure. Use learned vocabulary when explaining what influences these differences. The figure labels will differ between the MW and TR exams. Question 4. A researcher in the microbiology lab needs to pipette μL of a solution into a tube. State which pipette is appropriate for this volume i.e., P20, P200, etc. and label the pipette display screen with the correct numbers the researcher would need to dial to pipette this volume. Question 5: Assume that Tube A contains 10 mL of solution with bacteria per milliliter (mL). You then remove mL of solution from Tube A and mix it with mL of water in Tube B. After continuing this serial dilution to Tube E, how many bacteria per mL will the solution in Tube E contain? Question 6: Complete the table below by filling in the complete name (genus and species, where applicable) of the ESKAPE pathogens and their corresponding non-pathogenic Safe ESKAPE relatives. Question 7: The best library plates are made with many different bacterial species (as opposed to the same species of bacteria patched over and over). This is because library plates with high species diversity increase the likelihood of isolating an antibiotic-producing bacterium. List five (5) different characteristics of bacterial colonies that could be observed to identify unique species on a serial dilution plate. Question 8: Define zone of inhibition, antibiotic, antibiotic producer, and antibiotic resistance.
