Building of big dams has some serious problems associated with it, stated as below:
- 1. Construction and maintenance of dams is very expensive.
- 2. It causes a major ecological harm. It interferes with natural and normal functioning of ecosystems and a grave damage to the biodiversity.
- 3. There is an unprecedented damage to the natural habitat of organisms followed by their eradication from their natural habitat.
- 4. Large dams cause sedimentation in the water body leading to warming up of water resulting in death of aquatic life.
- Solution to the problem of sedimentation is construction of relatively smaller dams with integrated outputs.
