Building of big dams has some serious problems associated with it, stated as below:

1. Construction and maintenance of dams is very expensive.
2. It causes a major ecological harm. It interferes with natural and normal functioning of ecosystems and a grave damage to the biodiversity.
3. There is an unprecedented damage to the natural habitat of organisms followed by their eradication from their natural habitat.
4. Large dams cause sedimentation in the water body leading to warming up of water resulting in death of aquatic life.
Solution to the problem of sedimentation is construction of relatively smaller dams with integrated outputs.
