Apomixis is the production of seeds without fertilization. The term apomixis was given by winker (1908). There are several ways of development of apomictic seeds. In some species the diploid egg cell is formed without reduction division & develops into the embryo without fertilization. In some species the nucellar cells surrounding the embryo sac start dividing, protrude into the embryo sac & develop into embryos. Some apomictic plants are grasses, , etc.
